A couple of weeks ago in my Goo.gle Reader, I saw a really cool style tutorial on Glamazini.com for Juretha’s Cinnabun. I had said that I wanted to introduce buns into my styling now that hair is longer. I watched the tutorial and saw the pictures and Roshini’s hair looked great. (BTW, I do enjoy this hair blog very much!)
Anyhoo, I decided that I was going to try it. So, I washed my hair and tied it back with an old stocking leg – not the sexiest thing to use, but I didn’t have a satin tie. I followed the steps in the tutorial – two-strand twists around the periphery of the bun and then I modified it a bit – instead of taking the hair in the middle of the bun and making two larger two-strand twists, I made another row of twists. Why?
Well, I used to think my hair was super thick. It’s not. Instead of being puffy and thick in twists, my hair becomes very smooth and silky-ish in twists. So, styles that require puffiness to look good are really difficult for my hair because my hair doesn’t have that fullness. This was exactly the issue with my bun.
When I was finished, this is what it looked like:

Nice… OK… OK, I wasn’t blown over by it. It didn’t look as nice as Roshini’s version – granted, she has more hair than I do and maybe it’s a different texture that adds to the fullness of the style. My bun wasn’t a bun – it was too flat. I think one of the issues is that I didn’t make my initial puff tight enough. I was scared that the stocking that I used was going to hurt my head. As I was finishing up my hair, The Hubby told me that one of his close buddies was having a birthday party at some swanky club downtown on Saturday night. Great.
I had to go out with my parents on Friday, so I didn’t have any time to re-work the style before I went out. My mom and I made a pit stop at the mall where I picked up some extra funky hair bands – I had to work it out on Saturday. As I was getting ready to go, I looked at the style. I really wasn’t feeling it. I decided to change it up. I opened the twists and pinned them down with a plethora of bobby pins. Here’s what I got:

I LOVED IT! It was so cute and the feather hair band ($10.65 CDN at Claire’s as part of a buy 1 get 1 50% off). I did the makeup (thanks to a pamphlet from Seph.ora) and I hit the road. On an aside, I love bareMinerals make up. I used to be a MAC girl, but a while back I decided to try out mineral make up. Unfortunately, the first company I purchased from didn’t create colours that suited my complexion the way I wanted it to. So, when I decided to purchase again, I went into Seph.ora and picked up the bareMinerals starter kit. I love it – especially the Prime Time foundation primer. For any of you who have combination or oily skin, foundation primer is a necessity. Your make up sits so nicely on your face. Back to hair!
Next day, Thanksgiving. I changed my hair band to the one I got for 50% off ($2.50 CDN) at Claire’s:

So, what’s the moral of the story? Sometimes hair styles just don’t work because of texture differences or length or whatever. You have to be creative and work it out the best you can. Hair accessories are a girl’s best friend because they can make any hair style look dressed up and sexy.
This one was a definite hit. Everyone loved it – especially me!
Veeeery cute! It looks veeeeery cute. Thanks for sharing . Take care.
