The holidays are fast approaching and I know I’ll be spending plenty money in gifts, holiday preparations and going out with friends. I already made a dent in my budget shopping in New York last week and picking up some great products and clothes. So, really, do I need to shop? What else could I possible want (besides an 8 GB iPod Touch)? That being said, I’ve decided to go on a spending fast as of January.
Spending is fine, but you always should put away something for a rainy day, n’est-pas?
Starting January 1 to January 31, I will only buy the necessities: groceries, medication (if needed — I plan to stay cold and flu-free in 2010) and my January transit pass. I will give myself $25 per week for miscellaneous items like gum and coffee and will try to bring lunch to work four out of five days of the week.
Will anyone join me? I’m hoping that by the end of the month, I will have saved an additional $400. I’m also hoping that I’ll make some good habits like cooking in the evenings and bringing lunch to work. That alone can save me some loot. What do you think? Let me know!
I’ll join you! I could use a break from spending to focus on other good habits;-)
Yay! Every year, I look at my bank account and wonder, considering how much money I make per year, what happened to it all. Hopefully, this fast will help me save and put that money towards more important things than what I’ve been using it for.
I am all about stretching my money, so count me in!! Great habit to kick off the new year. Since being on maternity leave, I took the time to really reflect on how much I used to spend per month while I was working(being on a limited income pushed me to do so)It was almost shameful to see how much of my money was being exhausted on shoes (love me some Nine West and Steve Maddens) and food (who can resist Willy’s lunch specials???). I had to check myself hardcore. My resolution is to allocate my money in proper investments and make it grow…”If you want to feel rich, just count the things that money can’t buy”
Amen. At the end of each year, I always think about the amount of money that I’ve spent and wonder why I don’t have more saved up or in investments. So, for 2010, I’m definitely going to work harder on being a good financial steward of the money that the Lord has blessed me with.
