The holidays are fast approaching and I know I’ll be spending plenty money in gifts, holiday preparations and going out with friends. I already made a dent in my budget shopping in New York last week and picking up some great products and clothes. So, really, do I need to shop? What else could I possible want (besides an 8 GB iPod Touch)? That being said, I’ve decided to go on a spending fast as of January.
Spending is fine, but you always should put away something for a rainy day, n’est-pas?
Starting January 1 to January 31, I will only buy the necessities: groceries, medication (if needed — I plan to stay cold and flu-free in 2010) and my January transit pass. I will give myself $25 per week for miscellaneous items like gum and coffee and will try to bring lunch to work four out of five days of the week.
Will anyone join me? I’m hoping that by the end of the month, I will have saved an additional $400. I’m also hoping that I’ll make some good habits like cooking in the evenings and bringing lunch to work. That alone can save me some loot. What do you think? Let me know!
