Who’s The Accidental Natural?

Who am I?

This is serious question. I am so many things to myself and to others.

I am a writer.

A mom and a wife.

A daughter, sister, friend.

I am a child of God.

I am a person who loves to laugh, but knows when to be serious.

I am a fighter against anti-Black racism, all racism and prejudice.

A lover of people–whether I like them or not.

A natural hair lover and advocate.

An avid watcher of YouTube makeup videos.

A Pinterest junkie and a Love & Hip Hop addict.

I am a lot of things, and this list keeps growing.

This is my space to explore all things me.

    Hi There,

Are you in Toronto? I am trying to find a place to buy the Jamaican Mango and Lime products and I’m not having any luck.
    Can you recommend a place?

    Thx

    Crystal

Hi Crystal! I am in the GTA. I bought my JML products at a hair store in Ajax. Where are you located in the city?

    Hi

I really like your blog and your topics! Natural Girls Rocks! In fact, I wanted to share with you about a consumer show happening on July 31, 2010 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre called Ethnic Hair and Beauty Fair. I would love to share with you and your viewers! Maybe your local GTA readers can have a chance to meet up and chat all naturals and all!

Sounds interesting… I’ll definitely have to look into it 🙂

  4. Marie says:

Sooo happy there’s a natural blog in the GTA! I was looking for Giovanni’s leave-in conditioner in the GTA and just stumbled upon your site. Keep it up, I’ll be following…

Hi Marie! Glad that you passed through (and that you had better luck than I did find Giovanni leave-in in the GTA — I ended up ordering mine from well.ca) 🙂 I know of another Toronto natural hair blog: nukynk.blogspot.com. You should check out over there too. Thanks for the comments 🙂

Noah’s natural foodstore on Yonge, just south of Charles street has it for $9.99, as well as thousands of other goodies for your hair.

Just bought Kynk Hair Honey, can’t wait to try it out…

    Hi all,
For all those looking for Giovanni products, go to Healthy Planet. There is one at Parkway Mall (Victoria Park and Ellesmere) and there is another at Bathurst & Sheppard.

Also, does anyone know of a hairstylist in the North York area that specializes in natural hair?
    Thanks,

  6. urbansista says:

Guess what? I just came across Healthy Planet in Pickering at Hwy. 2 just east of Brock Rd.

As for hairstylists, I know of DSM at Yonge & Wellesley. That’s where I go to do my hair if I need professional haircare. I have noticed, in general, that most places do not specialize in natural hair — it’s all about relaxers or weaves, which sucks. I think it’s time for a post!

Probably late on this one, but Giovanni products are all over downtown. Whole Foods, Noah’s Natural – pretty much every health food store you can find. Winner’s had big bottles at good prices a few weeks ago. The best consistent prices and selection I’ve found are in Kensington Market at Essence of Life.

I’m glad to stumble across a GTA blog (also know of NuKynk)

    1. urbansista says:

      Hi Charmaine,

Thanks for commenting. I can find Giovanni products — just not the leave-in. The shampoos and conditioners are all over the place, but the leave-in? I’ve seen it in one spot locally so far. Keep your eyes out for that and let me know if you see it anywhere!

      1. Shan says:

I know I’m late on this but I bought my Giovanni leave-in at Zellers. I’ve also seen it at the Superstore in the natural health section.

      2. urbansista says:

Thanks for letting me know! BTW, I just visited your blog! I’m a book lover too!

  8. LL says:

Hi, I came to your blog via socialitedreams.com. Like you I went natural years ago (2001) I felt like I was paying others to damage my hair. I never knew being natural would become so popular. I found your blog informative and will return.

    1. urbansista says:

Thanks for dropping by! I hope you find more information while you’re here. Visit anytime!

    Hi,

Thanks for a great blog! I am in the GTA and I’m glad to find a local blogger 🙂

Thanks! I’m hoping to blog more regularly in the coming weeks — hopefully, those posts will help as well 🙂 Happy 2011!
