I know I’m kinda late on highlighting natural hair at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics opening games, but I’m going to spotlight it anyway.
Her Excellency The Right Honourable Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean opened the Vancouver Games and sported her now trademarked fluffy ‘fro. Jean is the first Black person to be Governor General in Canadian history. Whoo hoo! Although the opening ceremonies needed some more colour (where was Donovan Bailey or Charmaine Crooks to carry a torch or something? I mean, c’mon folks), the Governor General worked it out for all Canadian naturalistas.

On Tuesday, the ladies at work were gushing about Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman who performed the Olympic Hymn. Hair for days!

We’re everywhere 🙂
BTW, go Canada go!!!
I noticed them and they looked beautiful, found it very inspiring and refreshing to see them. I also noticed who I believe was the GG daughter and I was a bit disappointed that her hair wasn’t done up like the GG’s. To be honest, she’s cute but I thought her hair was a mess. And it wasnt a Zahara’s mess (who’s hair I happen to think looks fine when all out). It was a “nobody bothered to look at my hair” mess.
I can’t find a picture of the child online. Because she’s a child, I’ll refrain from commenting. Hopefully, it didn’t look too bad…
I know, that’s true…my beef about her hair was with her mom and her handlers because she was already there when her mom walked in. Who knows, she looked like she might be a teenager, maybe that’s how she wanted to wear her hair and I applaud parents who let their child/ren be. I’m sure I’ll go through the same thing so let me shut up. This was the first time since seeing her that I looked at another perspective…better late than never.
