I’m part of a great community service group, Black Pearls Community Services, Inc. It’s a group of Black women who are working to help other Black women and girls build self-esteem and further their education in the Greater Toronto Area.
Next month, the group is putting on BP Uncensored: Real Beauty. Peep what it’s about:
Is good hair long, wavy hair or kinks and coils? Is a beautiful body a healthy body or a size six with all the right curves? Is beauty a standard or is it whatever makes you feel beautiful? Films like Good Hair and Precious are getting people talking about beauty and self-image. What are your thoughts? Join Black Pearls and the University of Toronto Black Alumni Association at BP Uncensored: Real Beauty.
The interactive roundtable discussion will touch on many of the themes of beauty in our community – from good hair to self-esteem – in a positive environment. Whether you’ve seen the films or not, join us for this fun, insightful discussion on beauty.
This is a FREE event! Yes, you read it right, free! Here are the details:
When: December 6, 2009, 3 pm to 5 pm
